Idle time reports list the total time each vehicle in a specified fleet spent idling (not moving with the ignition on), and the approximate amount of fuel used while idling. There are two subtypes:
- Idle Time by State, Vehicle: Lists the total idling time for each state, with subtotals for each vehicle driven in the state. The report is grouped alphabetically by state or region, with vehicles listed alphabetically in each group.
- Idle Time by Vehicle, State: Lists the total idling time for each vehicle, with subtotals for each state in which the vehicle was driven. The report is grouped alphabetically by vehicle, with states listed alphabetically in each group.
These are the options that you can set for the Idle Time reports:
- Time Frame: The days covered by the report.
- Fleet: The vehicles shown in the report.
- Show empty nodes: Select this option to include empty hierarchy nodes, which do not contain any vehicles, in the report.
The columns of idle time reports are as follows:
- State: The state or region that the vehicle was driven in when it was idling. The definition of "State" varies by country, and in some cases is undefined. For example, in the US, this refers to states, while in other countries it might refer to regions.
- Vehicle: The identifier for the vehicle that was idling.
- Non Productive Idle Time: The amount of time the vehicle spent idling with no productive inputs on, summed over all trips in the selected time period. An idle vehicle is defined as a vehicle that has engine on, a speed of 0 knots, and that has satisfied the stop minute length requirement (with a default of 5 minutes). An idle period is non-productive if there is no productive input on.
- Total Idle Time: The amount of time the vehicle spent idling with or without productive inputs.
- Fuel Used Idling: The total amount of fuel used while the vehicles was idling. If the vehicle reports fuel usage, the reported fuel usage during idle time is used. If not, the fuel usage is calculated based on a fixed value of 0.8 gallons per hour (3.028 liters per hour) multiplied by the Total Idle Time.
